9. CSO Limited Engine Warranty
This warranty covers Cannonball Special Operations (CSO) McLaren engine packages, effective from the invoice date of part purchase and concluding twelve (12) months or 12,000 miles from that date, whichever occurs first. As the performance of cars and engines may vary due to diverse modifications, Cannonball Garage’s responsibility under this warranty pertains exclusively to the repair or replacement of engine parts manufactured, installed, and/or sold by Cannonball Garage. This warranty covers only the lubricated components of the engine assembly, and it does not cover any other item including but not limited to maintenance or normal wear items, the driveline dampener, transmission, or other drive-train components. This warranty shall be voided if the computer tuning is altered in any way from the CSO spec M-Engineering ECU calibration.
Payment for labor costs related to repair or replacement is solely directed by Cannonball Garage and is covered only if the part or parts were originally installed or serviced at Cannonball Garage’s facility located at 38 West End Drive, Gilberts, Illinois, 60136. Labor or service performed elsewhere is excluded from this warranty unless expressly permitted in writing by Cannonball garage prior to any work being performed.
Filing a Warranty Claim
To file an engine warranty claim, Cannonball Garage must be notified within seventy-two (72) hours of discovering the defect. After notifying Cannonball Garage the customer must make arrangements to deliver the vehicle with the engine intact to our facility within a reasonable timeframe. Shipping charges to and from Cannonball Garage are the responsibility of the customer.
Exclusions
Engine parts showing evidence of misapplication, abuse, misuse, improper maintenance, neglect, alterations from their original configuration are expressly not covered by this warranty. This warranty does not apply to damage caused by detonation, overheating, misuse, incorrect maintenance, incorrect octane fuel/ECU map being used, modification, use of nitrous oxide or methanol injection, abuse, racing, or accident(s).
Antilag, “pops & bangs”, “burble tunes”, flame tunes are explosions outside the combustion chamber while the exhaust valve is open and can cause serious damage to engine components and the secondary air injection system. Any damage to a CSO engine from this scenario is expressly not covered under this warranty.
Cannonball Garage reserves the right to make changes to engine products, packages, or specifications without obligation to modify earlier installed items. No entity is authorized to assume warranty responsibility for Cannonball Garage. Exclusions from this warranty include transportation and shipping charges, towing and rental car charges, improper or contaminated fuel, collision or repair damage, use in competitive events, custom-designed competition engine parts, and incidental or consequential damages.
Note: This warranty does not include the failure of any aftermarket parts, including but not limited to HD valve springs, head studs, etc.) This warranty does not include the failure of factory McLaren components or factory McLaren components subsequently purchased through Cannonball Garage, including, but not limited to the oil pump, water pump, cylinder liners, block, crankshaft, cylinder heads, head gaskets, cam phasers or any components not purchased through Cannonball Garage.
Failure of McLaren oil pumps is a well-known issue. In our experience, we have seen the needle bearing wear into the oil pump shaft which can cause the shaft to flex and break. Flexing or breaking of the shaft will completely stop oil circulation in the engine, resulting in catastrophic damage. These types of failures have occurred in modified and unmodified McLaren engines, and are NOT covered under any warranty by Cannonball Garage.
CSO Engine Maintenance Record Keeping Requirements
For this warranty to remain valid, the customer must follow the recommended maintenance schedule and maintain records as proof of compliance. Regular engine oil changes are crucial for long-term reliability. Use 0W-40 Amsoil European Blend in cooler climates, 10W-60 Amsoil European Blend in warmer climates or extreme horsepower applications, or any CSO-recommended oil. Adhere to a schedule of oil changes every 6 months or 3000 miles, or every 3 months or 1500 miles if high ethanol content fuel is used. By utilizing our required maintenance schedule, you can ensure optimal performance and longevity of your engine.
General Practices
Engine Warm Up: Always let your engine warm up to normal operating temperatures before allowing the car to enter positive boost pressure, or go to high RPM. If your vehicle does not have an engine oil temperature gauge, please remember that oil temperatures can take much longer than coolant temps to reach normal operating temperature. You will need to use your best judgment on when engine oil is at normal levels.
Check Oil Level Often: The M838T and M840T have a tendency to burn a little oil even from the factory. Check engine oil level at every gas fill up.
Engine Cool Down: After any full throttle operation, let the engine idle for a while to cool down the valves and other combustion-related parts.
Limitation Of Liability
Cannonball Garage’s liability under this warranty is limited solely to the repair or replacement of defective components of the engine rebuild as described above. Cannonball Garage shall not be liable for any damages, losses, or expenses incurred by the customer or any third party as a result of the engine rebuild or any warranty claims.
Other Terms
This warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original purchaser of the engine rebuild services from Cannonball Garage. The terms of this warranty are subject to change without notice.
Power Increase Statement
Please be advised that the CSO engine rebuild may cause a substantial increase in horsepower/torque of your vehicle. We do not endorse or in any other way support or promote unsafe or illegal use of your vehicle. As a result, we request that you acknowledge that the drivability of your car may be affected by such increase and you assume all responsibility and liability for receiving your vehicle from us in this changed condition. As partial consideration for our services, neither Cannonball Garage nor its principals, nor its agents assume any liability for any acts, including an error or accident, injury, death, or other consequence resulting from the increase in power made to your vehicle at your request. Further, you, your assigns, heirs, and representatives hereby release, hold harmless, and will indemnify Cannonball Garage from any such acts or claims or causes of action relating thereto.
